1990 Rickenbacker 330/12 modded with 60s Gibson P-90 Upgrade! $1299.99 Rickenbacker is one of the most revered names in the business. Iconic guitars and a no nonsense dedication to quality USA manufacturing define the company. This 330/12 is a cool guitar that has been modded for a killer look and sound. Read on. The neck through semi hollow body is maple with maple wings. This example has some nice figure on the back. The bound rosewood fingerboard features dot inlays. A set of Gibson P-90s (expensive pickups on the vintage market) were added at the neck and bridge position while what appears to be a Fender Jazzmaster pickup holds court in the middle. It sounds like a crazy mod but wait till you hear it. The P-90s offer great vibe and snarl for the 12 string sound cutting back on some of the "chop your head off" treble. Add in the middle pickup and you get a full, rich tone. The controls are simplified with a master volume and tone hooked to a 3 way switch and then an on/off for the middle pickup. Nothing fancy. The pickups are basically mounted without spacers. If I were going to take it on the road, I'd fabricate a set of spacers for a little better look and reliability. Otherwise it looks and functions fine. I don't have the original pickups. Trademark R tailpiece, adjustable bridge and Schaller tuners keep it rock solid. This example is finished in Fireglo sunburst. A very cool looking and sounding Ric! Click Here for more info.

Retro Gear Prototype Solidbody! SOLD!Here's a very cool and rare guitar for not a lot of bucks! Check out the fancy inlays and nice craftsmanship! This is a very cool and presumably rare Retro Gear prototype. In recent years, it seems like almost anyone could start a guitar company and have a factory in China build their product. I believe what we are looking at is a product from one of those companies that never made it past the prototype stage. I can't find any info on Retro Gear. Here's the only info I could find, a positive Harmony Central review. It looks like they scrubbed the mission before it left the launching pad. Failure to launch, Houston, we have trouble. All that aside, they made a dang nice guitar. Good materials and workmanship. The body appears to be mahogany with a gorgeous quilt maple top. The top is adorned with abalone binding. The neck appears to be maple and features a bound rosewood fingerboard with amazing inlays. Vines, flowerpots, all kinds of gingerbread. Dual humbuckers deliver great tone. 1984 Martin D-28 D-2832 Shenandoah! SOLD! When I think vintage dreadnought, the Martin D-28 is what pops into my mind. Unfortunately, a D-28 can be a pricey proposition. During the 80s, Martin introduced the Shenandoah line to offer players lower priced versions of their venerable models. Using parts sourced in Japan, Martin did final assembly and finishing in PA. They were marked made in USA but they were a little Japanese and a little American or a little country, a little rock n roll if you prefer. For some reason, you mention Japan regarding almost any other manufacturer and you get an enthusiastic response. The Martins were less well received. A shame in my opinion as they were generally nice guitars at a good price. The top is solid spruce while the back and sides are laminated rosewood for good tone and projection. The 25.4 inch scale mahogany neck features a rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays. A rosewood bridge and sealed tuners complete the picture.
