Sometimes you can buy something off the rack. Other times, you have to put a guitar together to get what you want. The Tele Custom is a great example of beating the system. This one has some primo parts and was built to replicate a vintage 62 Tele Custom! The body is a genuine Fender Japan 62 Tele Custom reissue body. Made of alder, it is bound on the front and back. The neck is from a 95 Fender Japan Foto Flame Tele. It has the cool faux flame finish and really looks killer. 25.5 inch scale maple with a rosewood fingerboard and vintage style frets. The pickups are a great sounding set of Rio Grandes . The jack is an Electrosocket for trouble free performance. Electronics are top quality Switchcraft/CTS just like in a USA Fender. A string through bridge with 3 compensated saddles and vintage style tuners keep it rock solid. The finish is black and is set off by a pearloid pickguard. A really hip looking and sounding guitar with tone and looks that exceed the price!
This Tele plays and sounds great. The slim neck is very comfortable. The frets are good, the action is nice and the neck is straight. The pickups deliver vintage tone. A very hip guitar. Condition wise, this is a nice used guitar with a cool vibe. It shows light to moderate pick and clearcoat scratches and a few light indents. A very solid used guitar. Comes in an aftermarket hardshell case.
If you've always wanted a double bound Tele, your choices are limited and expensive. Fender offers a 62 reissue for a whopping $1699 in the superstores. Even a used Japanese reissue will run you around $950 if you can find one. Building one from parts will cost you at least that if not more. Here's one that's ready to go and priced right.
