1984 Martin D-28 D-2832 Shenandoah! SOLD! Click any picture for supersize view! When I think vintage dreadnought, the Martin D-28 is what pops into my mind. Unfortunately, a D-28 can be a pricey proposition. During the 80s, Martin introduced the Shenandoah line to offer players lower priced versions of their venerable models. Using parts sourced in Japan, Martin did final assembly and finishing in PA. They were marked made in USA but they were a little Japanese and a little American or a little country, a little rock n roll if you prefer. For some reason, you mention Japan regarding almost any other manufacturer and you get an enthusiastic response. The Martins were less well received. A shame in my opinion as they were generally nice guitars at a good price. The top is solid spruce while the back and sides are laminated rosewood for good tone and projection. The 25.4 inch scale mahogany neck features a rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays. A rosewood bridge and sealed tuners complete the picture. The finish is natural lacquer and is set off by a tortoise pickguard. A cool guitar with tons of vibe. This is a nice playing and sounding Martin. It has trademark dreadnought tone and feels good. We recently did a partial refret and it plays great. The neck is straight and the action is good. The factory undersaddle pickup works well and sounds good. Condition wise, this one is for a player. It has a played in appearance like a vintage Martin. Lots of wear, checking, dents and dings. Some repaired cracks but the everything is stable and ready to go. Good neck angle. Comes in original hardshell case. This is a nice sounding and very cool looking guitar at a good price. A new D-28 will cost you $2299 at the superstores. Here's a very similar vibe and feel for a lot less. ST#SG5X0/450882XXX112411 |
