Is there anything cooler than a Tele Custom? How about a Thinskin? The Thinskin series was exclusively offered by a few premier dealers. They were top notch variations of the already excellent American Vintage reissues and sported some cool upgrades. Thin nitro lacquer finishes, big frets and special pickups were offered. This 62 reissue Tele Custom is a great example of the breed. The body is alder and is bound in white on the front and back for killer looks. The 25.5 inch scale maple neck features a 9.5 inch radius rosewood fingerboard with 21 6105 frets and dot inlays. Custom Shop Tele pickups deliver big time twang. A string through, 3 saddle bridge with threaded saddles and Kluson style tuners keep it rock solid. The finish is the ultra cool Thinskin Lake Placid Blue Nitrocellulose Lacquer. A super cool Tele in a killer color!
As you would expect from a Thinskin guitar, this Tele plays and sounds great. The quality is comparable to many Custom Shop instruments. The C shaped neck is comfy and the big frets make for great playability. The pickups sound great and everything works as it should. A really cool guitar. Condition wise, this example has a cool vibe. Thanks to its thin lacquer finish, it has already developed some finish checking. The most pronounced is a line on the bass side coming from the bottom of the bridge. Otherwise, it shows light to moderate pick and clearcoat scratches as well as some indents and dings. Comes in original hardshell case along with a pile of case candy and Thinskin cert.
This is one of the coolest looking guitars around and just screams vintage. The Thinskins are tough to find as they weren't available to superstores or small local dealers. Here's a cool example with killer vibe.
