I'm a big fan of Electric 12 strings but it's hard to find one that plays like a comparable 6 string. PRS spent years refining electric 12s in their Custom Shop and offered this great playing and sounding guitar briefly. Now discontinued, these guitars found fans among players that wanted the tone of a 12 string without the compromises. A special neck shape, nut spacing, bridge design, electronics, fingerboard radius, string gauge and set up make the Custom 22 12 one of the best 12 strings on the market. The specs are classic PRS. The body is mahogany and features a carved maple top. The edges of the body are left unpainted for a faux binding effect. You can see some nice maple figuring on this example. The 25 inch scale mahogany neck features a rosewood fingerboard with moon inlays. Special Lindy Fralin Hum/single/hum pickups deliver a variety of tones and a push pull tone control delivers classic sparkle. A 12 string adjustable Stoptail and PRS low mass tuners team up for rock solid performance. The finish is a striking metallic silver. The finish isn't listed as a standard option on this model so I have to assume it was special ordered. The hangtag indicates that the gold hardware was a special order. All in all, a unique package that truly delivers on the promise of its incredible looks.
This PRS plays and sounds great. One of the better playing 12 strings I've had in awhile, the action is good, the frets are fine and the feel is excellent. The pickups deliver a variety of tones. Everything works as it should. This is a very nice used guitar. Collector owned, it has seen little playtime. It shows light pick and clearcoat scratches and some very minor playwear. Very nice. Comes in original hardshell case.
PRS has discontinues the Custom 22 12. I'm sure you can order a Private Stock version if your pockets are deep enough. The only new ones I could find for sale were $3800 and up. Here's one in a rare color for a lot less.
