1968 Ovation Typhoon II Bass! SOLD!

Click any picture for supersize view!

Ovation's electric instruments were all but forgotten by many but have been rediscovered by many players as cool instruments for not a lot of cash. This Typhoon bass is a great example of the breed. Killer vintage 60s tone like you heard on movie and TV soundtracks of the era. Nice specs. The bodies for these hollowbody instruments were actually made by Hofner in Germany. The top is spruce while the back and sides are maple. The 30 inch scale maple neck features a rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays. Dual single coils (made by Dearmond according to some sources) dish out killer tones. Schaller tuners, a unique adjustable bridge and a classic trapeze tailpiece keep it rock solid. The finish is cherry red and is set off by chrome hardware. A very cool 43 year old instrument for not a lot of cash!

This Ovation plays and sounds great. The neck is straight, the action is good and the frets are fine. the pickups sound awesome. The electronics work as they should. A very nice bass. Condition wise, this is a solid vintage instrument. It shows normal checking as you would expect from an instrument of this era. Moderate pick, clearcoat and belt scratches as well as some indents and dings. The back of one of the tuner casings is a little funky but works fine. Still a nice looking bass with a hip vibe. Comes in a gigbag.

If you dig basses like the Gibson EB-3 or Guild Starfire but don't want to pay big bucks, this one is for you. Cool 60s tone at a good price. Nice quality as well. Fairly uncommon on the used and vintage market. Here's your best chance to grab one.
