Holy moley, what a crazy looking guitar. Probably one of Gibson's more controversial releases in recent years, the Zoot Suit is a like it or love it proposition. Bad acid trip or innovative ground breaker? I dunno, but I can appreciate some of its unique features. How the heck did they do it? The body and neck is made of several pieces of birch. Dyed several colors then glued together with a proprietary glue that Gibson claims was developed to increase sustain and resonance. It's definitely different. The body shape is actually a little different than your typical SG with a bit of a carved top kinda thing going on. Surprisingly cool actually. The neck features an ebony fingerboard with dot inlays. Gibson's hot 496R and 500T pickups deliver big tone. The coils are actually clear so you can see the windings. Pretty hip. A Tuneomatic bridge, Stopbar tailpiece and Grover Rotomatic tuners keep it rock solid. The finish is a thin matte lacquer over the exploded hippie rainbow motif. Cool appointments included clear knobs, red switch tip and clear pickup rings. If you're looking to form a Strawberry Alarm Clock tribute band and want that VW bus batik tapestry vibe on your guitar then shine on you crazy diamond. Your axe has arrived.
This SG sounds surprisingly hip. Bright and clear tone. The pickups are super hot and can do a variety of styles. A really unique tone that is a bit more versatile than your average SG. This is a great opportunity to grab a killer instrument. This is a NEW OLD STOCK condition guitar. It was leftover stock from a local store and shows only light shopwear. Straight from the stockroom! As nice or nicer than most hanging in the superstores! Comes in a gigbag.
The Zoot Suit SG is definitely not for everyone. I kinda dig its freaky vibe and it certainly looks cooler in person. If nothing else, an instrument this controversial will sure to have some collectability in the future. Own a guitar that will incite conversations, riots, love ins and general confusion no matter where you take it. $1199 at the super stores. Here's one for less.
