1968 Gretsch 6122 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman! SOLD! Click any picture for supersize view! A great guitar whether you are a mop top Fab Four type or Nashville finger picker! The Country Gentleman was the top of the Chet Atkins line during the 60s. Second only to the White Falcon, the 6122 epitomizes deluxe. The hollow laminated maple body has no F holes for better feedback resistance. The 3 piece maple neck features a bound ebony fingerboard with thumbprint inlays. Dual Filtertron humbuckers deliver vintage tone. An upgraded Tuneomatic bridge teams with kidney button Grover Imperial tuners. A Bigsby vibrato makes an impressive visual statement. The color is the classic walnut stain just like George Harrison. All hardware is gold plated. An impressive package! This Gretsch plays nicely and has classic tone. The neck is straight and the action is good. the frets show some moderate wear but play fine. This one, unlike many Gretsch guitars of the period is actually a playable instrument. The pickups sound good and have great 60s tone. Very cool. Condition wise, this one shows the wear you would expect from a 40 year old guitar. Normal scratches, dents and dings. Finish wear on the back of the neck and corrosion on the gold plating. Normal stuff for a guitar of this vintage. The rubber mute pad is missing but who used that contraption anyway? Crack in pickguard. The worst issue is some common Gretsch binding rot. A fairly common ailment of vintage Gretsch guitars, this one has it. There's some bits missing and a few areas of cracking and chips. It's almost rare to see one without it these days. An experienced luthier should be able to replace it. A player may not be bothered by it at all. Comes in original hardshell case. This is a cool vintage guitar that will cost you less than a reissue. A new 6122 will cost you $2449 at the superstores. Many vintage dealers are asking $3K and up for similar Gents, many with similar binding issues. This one is a downright bargain. |
