1972-74 Gibson Les Paul Custom! SOLD! Click any picture for supersize view! Attention players! Here’s a cool 35+ year old Lester that won’t break the bank! When I think “Les Paul Custom”, this is what I picture! A Black Beauty with a cool vibe! All of the essential ingredients for good tone are here. Mahogany body with a carved maple top for killer lows and highs. 3 piece maple neck features a bound ebony fingerboard with pearl block inlays. The headstock overlay features the famous pearl split diamond and Gibson logo inlay. The pickups have been changed to a set of 57 Classics and the pots and caps have been changed as well. The bridge has been changed to a Nashville style and the tuners changed to Grovers. Made somewhere in the 72-74 range. The guy I got it from said it was a 72. Crazy cool vibe! This is a great player’s guitar. The original frets feel good. They show some moderate wear but play fine. The newer pickups sound great with tons of snarl and tone. 11 pounds according to my scale. Condition wise, this guitar has been played and has had some changes. Road warrior vibe with pick, clearcoat and belt scratches, dents, dings and plating wear. Beat up but cool beat up. Absolutely NO neck or headstock breaks/repairs that I can see. Tuner, bridge, pickup and electronics changed. Some genius filled a rout under the bridge visible by clicking here. Dunno if this is some kind of sustain block or something. Either way, not for the collector. Cool looking if you ask me. Comes in a recent aftermarket hardshell case. For years I wanted a real Les Paul Custom. It seemed like all of the good local players used a nicely aged example like this one. This guitar is ready for the bar or your next jam. Dealers are asking $4000 and up for Les Pauls of this vintage in good shape. Get a player one for less! |
