1992 Gibson Les Paul Studio Lite M-III! SOLD! Click any picture for supersize view! Here's something you don't see every day: a Les Paul with an H/S/H pickup arrangement! The Studio Lite was Gibson's attempt at making a modern Les Paul. Some cool features. The body is made of mahogany with Chromyte inserts for lighter weight. The top is maple for that classic Lester bite. The 24.75 inch scale mahogany neck features a rosewood fingerboard with trapezoid inlays. The electronics are where the fun is. A hot 500T bridge pickup teams with a 496R neck pickup and an NSX mid position single coil. A 5 way switch along with a 2 position switch gives you 5 single coil sounds and 4 humbucker tones. One of the positions on the 5 way is actually an off position in humbucker mode which fooled me for a second. I assumed that there was a wiring issue but after reading up on these, it turns out Gibson actually wired one setting as an off position. Wacky! A Stopbar tailpiece, Tuneomatic bridge and sealed tuners keep it rock solid. The finish is a transparent brown with a black back and is contrasted by black hardware. A really cool Les Paul that does a ton of different styles! This Les Paul plays and sounds nice. The action is good and the frets are fine. The pickups deliver a variety of tones. Everything works as it should. The instrument cosmetically would be fine for most players. It shows moderate pick, clearcoat and belt scratches as well as some indents. Normal wear and tear. Comes in a Gibson gigbag. This guitar will appeal to anyone that wants the classic Les Paul look but needs a variety of tones. It's actually fairly versatile and may become your signature sound. With new Les Paul Studios costing over $1300, this 17 year old example is a good value as well. |
